Demise Charters
Demise charters (or bareboat charters) are a legal mechanism through which more than six paying Passengers can charter an uninspected vessel. In a demise charter the Captain and Crew are members of the chartering party, and are therefore hired directly by* the chartering party, as opposed to being employees or contractors of the vessel's owner or charter agent.
In a demise charter there is significantly more complication, along with a shift in responsibility and liability toward the Charterer and their Captain, reflected in the higher rates charged for this type of work.
Other Key Differences from a "Six Pack" Charter
-
There cannot be more than twelve Passengers.
-
A separate employment agreement* must be executed prior to the charter.
-
The Charterers must provide their own food and drinks.
-
The vessel's owner or owner's representative cannot be aboard the vessel.
