A Short Bio
Sailing since 1973, Jim's experience includes racing, cruising, teaching and writing about sailing, as well as management in the sailing industry.
As a racer, he has competed in nearly 400 events, holding every position from bow to driver. In 2016 he competed as Tactician aboard a Melges 24 and Bow on a Columbia 5.5.
As a cruiser, he spent six years sailing with his wife on his own boat from San Francisco to Mexico, and then through the South Pacific to New Zealand and Australia.
As a professional sailor, he holds a Coast Guard 100 Ton Master's License and instructor certifications from US Sailing, ASA, US Powerboating, and the Recreational Powerboating Association. He is also a former General Manager and School Director of Club Nautique, San Francisco Bay's largest yacht charter company. Jim's writing on sailing has been published in Sail Magazine, Latitude 38 and Ocean Navigator. As a professional, Jim says that he is most proud of his safety record and the high level of satisfaction from his students and clients.
